Eva Longoria uncovers family history on new TV show

eva longoriaDesperate Housewives star Eva Longoria has been tracing her family history in a new TV show.

The actress learned about her great-grandfather, Pedro Longoria, who lived in northern Mexico – a Spanish colony at that time – as she appeared on US show Faces Of America.

The show revealed that in 1749, Pedro took part in a mission led by the intrepid Spanish explorer José de Escandón.

De Escandón was under orders to push the Spanish frontier north and had advertised for people to go with him with the promise that they would be rewarded with free land.

Pedro was eventually given 4,500 acres of land by the King of Spain. His land was just north of Rio Grande, in what is known today as Texas.

The show is currently airing in the US and will also feature stars such as Meryl Streep and director Mike Nichols tracing their family tress.

Eva Longoria steps out in a waterfall cardigan as she promotes new Gap collection

It seems Eva Longoria may have been taking tips on casual dressing from her close friend Victoria Beckham. The Desperate Housewives star managed to make a simple pair of jeans look high fashion with the help of a few Posh tricks. She teamed the denim with super high heels, carefully colour matched to her long pink wrap cardigan and vest top. With the addition of an Hermes handbag she was ready to go.

Eva wore the outfit to the opening of the new Gap 1969 jeans shop in West Hollywood. And perhaps unsurprisingly, her clothes came from the chain’s upcoming collection. Also at the star-studded launch were Gap fans Sarah Michelle Gellar, Debra Messing and Kate Beckinsale.

Eva Longoria Parker says award is ‘a heady accomplishment’

evaDesperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker was far more excited about being presented with a prestigious award for her outstanding entrepreneurial success than talking about the fact that her hit ABC series has been renewed for three more years.

“This is a big deal. It’s a heady accomplishment. It was time,” she told me at the party in her Beso restaurant and Eve the Nightclub on Saturday night. She was celebrating Eva Longoria Parker Day, as well, with her proud parents Ella and Enrique Longoria.

It was the 35th installation by the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and Eva was presented with the Distinguished Gold Award acknowledging her “outstanding entrepreneurial success.” Chairman of the Clark County Commission Rory Reid and Las Vegas Councilman Ricki Barlow each presented Eva with a proclamation on the red carpet to declare the day in her honor.

Eva ran down the accomplishments for me: “It’s the first time the award has been given, it’s the first time to a woman and the first time to the sole woman restaurant and nightclub owner on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s also the first time it’s awarded to a woman who now spends half her time here in Las Vegas and half her time in Hollywood. Now I’m a resident!

“It’s an amazing feeling to be recognized like this. It’s nice to be welcomed into the community this way as a businesswoman, recognized by my own community that I give back to so much and really proudly represent. When they told me I was the first female Latino on the Strip, I said that’s impossible. It must have been done before, but they said no, I was the first. I thought many other people had come before me, but to be recognized as the only Latin restaurateur in Las Vegas on the Strip is a heady accomplishment. It was time.”

With hair swept up in a tight back bun, Eva looked simply stunning in a gray leather Badgley Mischka dress and black YSL heels as she walked the red carpet outside her restaurant and nightclub in MGM CityCenter’s Crystals. Also attending were Nevada first lady Dawn Gibbons, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Chairman David Lizarraga, Nevada Sen. Steven Horsford, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, Assemblyman William Horne, Latin Chamber of Commerce Chairman Luis Valera, LCC President and CEO Otto Merida and Aria President and COO William McBeath.

Photographer Denise Truscello captured the ceremony for our photo gallery as Eva was presented with the prestigious Premio de Oro — Distinguished Business Leadership Award honoring her commitment to expand opportunities for women- and minority-owned businesses. Eva told the group that it was an honor to receive the award and that she was proud to make a difference in the Las Vegas and Latin community, attributing much of her success to the female role models in her life — her mother, grandmother, aunts and three older sisters.

After the ceremony, Eva dined with her parents at her Beso steakhouse. Afterward, he returned upstairs to Eve, where she topped off the night with dancing, a surprise visit from showman Jeff Beacher’s Oompa Loompas and a cake and champagne toast in celebration of Eva Longoria Parker Day. Contributing photographer Erik Kabik was on duty for that portion of the evening, and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton dropped by to congratulate Eva on her achievements.

I asked Eva, who opened her restaurant and nightclub in December, to give me an assessment of her first 90 days. She told me: “Our first quarter looks like it will be an amazing year. Things are going great. I see the balance sheet every night via email. I look hard at those P&L statements. I am hands on — sometimes very controlling. So far I’ve been very pleased at how we are doing in CityCenter. I’m getting my feet really wet now in Las Vegas.

“I see, I sense that Las Vegas is coming out of its darkest economic problems. I really feel that especially here in the restaurant. I don’t know if it’s because we are recognizable as a brand, but we have had a steady, sure growth since we opened. Nothing has declined. We’re not in trouble in any way, so I’m really pleased with its performance.”

I said her parents must be particularly proud. “I think they’re here more to drink and gamble,” she joked. “They’re really proud of me, but they came to play.”

Eva told me that she has only four episodes left to film for Season 6 of Desperate Housewives.

“We’ve been picked up now through year nine, so we have three more years guaranteed. It’s great to have a steady job. I’m actually not thinking about next season because I don’t even have the script yet for what we’re shooting next week! But, you know, everything always goes wrong on Wisteria Lane, and that will keep happening with a healthy dose of sex and insanity. So next year, anybody, everybody could die. You can bet there will be more drama, more agony and more upheavals.”

She summed up her success as a businesswoman — and actress — for me: “If you are willing to take the risk, anything is possible.”

Eva Longoria Parker’s Gray Strapless Dress

Eva Longoria Parker was presented with a Distinguished Business Leadership Award at the Latin Chamber of Commerce Celebration in Las Vegas on Saturday. We’re not big fans of her gray leather strapless dress – seems a bit drab. What do you think? See more photos after the jump!

Eva is scheduled to appear on NBC’s new show “The Marriage Ref” this season. In the series celebrities judge the winner of domestic disputes between feuding couples. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld came up with the idea after asking a friend to settle a dispute between him and his wife of 10 years, Jessica.

Eva has been happily married to NBA basketball star Tony Parker since July 2007.

Eva Longoria-Parker: ‘I’m a Big Eater’

eva-eaterEva Longoria-Parker has to watch what she eats like all the other celebs out there, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying some gut-busting Mexican dishes every now and then.

She said: “I am a big eater, but I do watch what I eat. I love to cook and just love Mexican food. It’s my weakness and any red meat, I just love it. So I’d say Mexican food is my secret indulgence. I also love New York pizza and I just love Indian cuisine — the spicier the better.”

The 34-year-old actress, who is married to her basketball player Tony Parker, owns Mexican eatery Beso in Hollywood and has another restaurant in Las Vegas.

Eva also revealed she doesn’t do a lot of exercise to retain her sexy trim physique. She added: “It’s mostly weight training or kick boxing. I have this amazing high for adrenaline. It agrees with me. Your body is a vehicle and you have to take care of that vehicle.”

Eva Says: My Husband is Needy

eva-longoriaEVA Longoria-Parker says her husband hates it when she leaves the house.

The Desperate Housewives beauty — who’s married San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker — admits the footballer pines for her when she leaves for work each day and he is constantly contacting her because he hates to be apart from his sexy wife.

“Tony really, really hates it when I go. He is always like ‘Why are you leaving?’ He just wants me home,” said Eva.

“I want to be home but I do have to go to work.”

Eva recently admitted that her Valentine’s Days usually “suck” because Tony always ends up working!

“As long as I’m with my husband I will find the day romantic,” she said. ” But it kinda sucks sometimes, ’cause Valentine’s Day always falls on All-Star weekend, and he’s always made the All-Stars.

“So I’m usually with a bunch of big sweaty guys, trying to squeeze in a romantic dinner.”

Eva Longoria Parker sent fans to porn site on Twitter

eva-twitterThe Desperate Housewives actress – who signed up for a Twitter account last week – was trying to urge her followers to look at a website about her husband, basketball star Tony Parker, but accidentally posted the wrong address.

After realising her mistake, she tweeted: “Oh noooo! I put the wrong twitter site for my husband! The one I put earlier goes to some porn site!!!! Don’t use it! (sic)”

Despite not knowing her husband’s website address, Eva, 34, recently spoke about how close she and her 27-year-old spouse are.

She said: “We are just best friends. I love his company and I am married to the person I want to be with.

“I cannot ask for more. We respect each other as people and as a couple, and we trust each other. The best thing is that he loves to surprise me and I love to be surprised.

“Our relationship is more solid than ever and we have so much fun together. Tony and I would love to be together forever. But the only way you get to forever is one day at a time.”
